In addition to chronicling George Washington’s heroic battles, it also gives a thorough report of his early life, his educational background, his marriage to Martha Custis, his life as a wealthy Virginia planter, and his love of architecture and home decor. His desire to bring the colonies back into the fold seems sincere, but McCullough allows readers to decide for themselves. It opens with King George III, the king of England and a villain by most American accounts, seen as having less in common with other royalty than with many commoners. The book also paints objective, detailed portraits of some of the most important American and British participants of the war. Unlike other histories that focus on narrating the Continental Congress’s development of the ideas of “freedom” and “liberty” as they applied to the colonies, this book takes the reader into the trenches, following each of Washington’s battles with his New England militiamen, who were completely untrained and, according to some, unfit for battle. In recounting Revolutionary War losses and retreats as well as major successes, the book centers primarily on George Washington. The opinions shared here are my own entirely. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received any compensation. I recommend this clean-wholesome novel to fans of Hallmark and any reader looking for a holiday romance.ĭisclaimer: I receive complimentary books from various sources, including, publishers, publicists, authors, and/or NetGalley. Plus, a sneak peak at author Ginny Baird’s Christmas story, ‘The Unforgettable Christmas’. I think other readers should give the Christmas story a try because it’s a great Hallmark story even if you haven’t seen the movie and there is a Gingerbread Cake recipe at the end. I also appreciated the way Taylor took Brooke under her loving arm. I loved Brooke the best because she is the adorable child of Adam Dale. This one is an engaging African-American romance. So when I saw this story I knew I would want to read it. I wanted to read this novel because I love clean-wholesome Hallmark movies. Do two in charge people, Taylor Scott and Adam Dale, have what it takes to fall in love? A Gingerbread Romance is a Hallmark Christmas Romance novel by author Lacey Baker. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Save the date by morgan matsonAnd she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.Īs far as bloggers go, I’m fairly new to YA. Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute. Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo. There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge. The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster-all that can wait. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. Summary: Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait-for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Source: Finished hardback via publisher (Thank you, Simon Teen!) In my mind Price Dashing had exsisted in his prime, but now that memory was replaced by 80 year old dead Prince Dashing. It was just too sad, seeing the characters I had loved so much become old and weak. It took me a long time to bring myself to return to the new trilogy, and I never was able to enjoy it fully. When you think about it, dying of natural-ish causes at 80 is pretty much the most anyone can ask for. Over ten years later and I still remember the specific details. This new trilogy opens with a courier announcing to a country town that the Prince from the first trilogy had died. The trilogy, among other things, followed Prince Dashing on various adventures until he saves the land and his lady love and lives happily every after.īut the author did not stop with just this trilogy, he went on to write many (many, many) more set in the same universe, one of which was set seventy or so years after the original trilogy. There was one character in particular I was very fond of, a dashing young prince. There was this fantasy series I loved like a mad thing when I was about fourteen or so, but I won’t say which one as I don’t want to spoil anyone. Adam Kay is a BAFTA-winning author, TV writer, comedian and former junior doctor. (Spoiler: it doesn’t, as I’m sure every womxn reading this will already know.) Short but rich in ideas, Tomorrow Sex Will Be Good Again picks apart discourses on sex, on female desire, on arousal, on vulnerability, and places them within the post-#MeToo framework of explicit, affirmative consent. It’s an appropriate phrase for Katherine Angel to have borrowed for the title of her new book, in which she explores current notions of consent and desire, and asks whether saying yes automatically equates to good sex. He teasingly promised that ‘tomorrow sex will be good again’, holding the prospect tantalisingly out of reach and arguing that good sex cannot simply be willed into existence. In the 1970s, the philosopher Michael Foucault wrote an essay in which he picked apart the supposed sexual revolution. In her new book, Katherine Angel explores the nuances and complexities of consent, female desire, and vulnerability in a post #MeToo world, and asks whether explicit consent really does make sex good again. 5/9/2023 0 Comments The crystal worldThere is even a hedge maze shaped like a giant hand. Now it also features a large, outdoor green space with attractions throughout, including a playground tower for children and a “Crystal Cloud” made up of over 800,000 separate gems. In 2015, the park was given a facelift and expanded to almost double the original size. The exhibition itself consists of over a dozen different rooms decked out in Swarovski crystals, creating uniquely themed, glittering spaces that could just as easily be a dwarf king’s treasure hall. Like something out of a fairy tale, the park’s main attraction is the “Chambers of Wonder” exhibition, which is contained within a green hill, the entrance of which is made to look like a crouching giant. Swarovski’s surreal museum/theme park Crystal Worlds was first opened back in 1995 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the company’s founding. Hiding in the verdant hills of Wattens, Austria is a foliage-covered giant who spews a waterfall from his mouth and guards over a dozen fantastical crystal chambers beneath a hill. |
